Book Review

Tim Saunders has written a number of books looking at the Normandy Campaign but to me this is by far the best and most detailed.
Over the course of twelve chapters he explains the actions that took place on and in the surrounding areas of HIll 112 . The author sets the scene by introducing the initial units involved and then follows them through Normandy to the site of battle, Hill 112 and the surrounding villages.
He follows the development of the battle demonstrating the importance of the location for both the British and German forces. Interestingly, the actions are related from both sides as well, and this gives a real sense of the fighting and conditions in the area.
Overall, the book reads well , is written in everyday language and although goes into enough detail does not go into chapter and verse on every individual in every unit like some do which can become quite overwelming . There is also a Glossary at the beginning of the book to explain common abbreviations and photos and maps to accompany the words. The length of the book is about right to give justice to the subject.
This should be on the bookshelf of anyone that is interested in the Normandy campaign, or is planning a battlefield tour of the area.
